The Australian music scene is certainly starting strong in 2015 with a slew of tours already lined up. Here’s a group of tours going on throughout January that will definitely start your year off right.

The Growlers

Last time The Growlers were here, fans were given a sold out tour filled with intimate shows, sweaty rooms, and endless dancing as the band played and surfed their way across the country. After returning home to their South Californian home to put the finishing touches of newest album Chinese Fountain the band toured extensively through America, UK and Europe. Now they’re eager to return to our shores to catch the Australian summer and showcase their new tunes to Aussie fans.

Benny Walker

Hailing from regional Victoria, Indigenous singer/songwriter Benny Walker is the real deal. His love songs and epic tales are mixed with passion for the land, the people, summer vibes and laid back grooves, all elements that touch the soul through his velvety vocals and sensitive delivery. An accomplished solo performer, for this tour Walker will be regularly joined on stage by his band, replacing his acoustic guitar with a Telecaster and indulging his passion for the big blues-rock sound.

The Coathangers

Forming in 2006 for the sole purpose of playing parties and hanging out, US female punk band The Coathangers are as much known for their infectious and unpretentious tunes as their are for being a formidable force live. The Coathangers encapsulate the classic, aggressive punk legacy of artists like The Runaways and Patti Smith and now four albums in they’ve becoming a powerful voice in the modern day punk.

Frikstailers (pronounced ‘freak-stylers’) rose from the eclectic Buenos Aires cumbia scene, turning the genre on its head with their unique style that can go anywhere from tropical ambience to 1980’s synth to psychedelia. Now they’re coming to Australia for their debut visit as guests for the upcoming Sydney Festival, MONA FOMA and NGV Friday Nights at Jean Paul Gaultier.

Shonen Knife

Now on their 19th studio album, Japanese rock group Shonen Knife are heading to the Southern hemisphere again to perform at Hobart’s MONA FOMA. Thankfully, they’ve thrown in a few extra dates for all the plebs who won’t be crossing the Tasman. Heavily influenced by 1960s girl groups, pop bands, The Beach Boys, and early punk rock bands, such as the Ramones, the trio craft stripped-down songs with simplistic lyrics that are sugary sweet and fucking awesome.

After their first ever national tour of Australia as part of 2008’s Soundwave, Philadelphia’s five-piece rock band mewithoutYou are heading back to Australia for an east coast tour to perform tracks from their latest and self-released album Ten Stories as well as fan favourites from their huge back catalogue. The band have also revealed that fans should expect a taste of some brand new material off their  forthcoming untitled 6th studio album, due for release in later on in 2015.

Dallas Crane

Local rock’n roll mainstays Dallas Crane are national run of shows in January as a live preview of the band’s long awaited fifth LP. Joining them will be special guests Child for shows in Sydney, Brisbane and Melbourne. It’ll be their last stint on the road before their release their new album later this year.
