Congratulations to Melbourne’s own Hiatus Kaiyote whose song ‘Nakamarra’ has been nominated for Best R&B Performance at this year’s Grammys.

Exclaiming their excitement (and possibly disbelief) on their facebook with a screenshot of the nominations and the caption “soo…this happened…nominated for a GRAMMY!!!WTF!??”, Hiatus Kaiyote are the first Australian band to be nominated in the category.

The song ‘Nakamarra’ is off their debut album Tawk Tomahawk, recorded in Melbourne’s Inner North and independently released in 2011.

Hiatus Kaiyote won’t be the only Australian band in the running for a grammy with buzz band Tame Impala nominated for Best Alternative Album.

Hiatus Kaiyote  have a hectic tour schedule as well with upcoming performances at Falls Festival, Golden Plains, WoMA Adelaide as well as a support slot with Erykah Badu for her Bluefest sideshow next year.
