Today The Australian Independent Record Labels Association has unveiled the nominees for the 2015 Carlton Dry Independent Music Awards. The awards cover the last 12 months of independent Australian music, spanning across various categories and genres.

Melbourne has some great representation with #1 Dads, Briggs, Client Liaison, Japanese Wallpaper and Totally Mild all nominated for Breakthrough Independent Artist of the Year. #1 Dads, Chet Faker, Courtney Barnett and Vance Joy all up for Best Independent Artist, alongside Sydney’s Hermitude who lead the pack with nominations in 4 categories including Best Independent Album for Dark Night Sweet Light. Courtney Barnett also has 4 nominations over 3 categories including Best Independent Album, and two separate nominations for Best Independent Single or EP for ‘Depreston’ and ‘Pedestrian at Best.’

Other Melbournians up for awards include British India, King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard, The Peep Tempel and The Smith Street Band all nominated for Best Independent Hard Rock, Heavy or Punk Album; C.W. Stoneking, Fraser A. Gorman and Paul Kelly’s Merri Music Sessions project are up for Best Independent Blues and Roots Album and Shep’s own Briggs joins Seth Sentry, who is again nominated for Best Independent Hip Hop Album.

This year’s awards ceremony will be held on Thursday 22nd of October at Meat Market, North Melbourne.
